The Canon digital camera began from very humble beginnings, and today it is indisputably the world's leader in producing high-quality cost-effective lenses.
Canon started in a single-room by three Japanese men in 1933 under the name of Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory. Since then Canon has come a long way.
Canon began with a prototype camera called the "Kwanon". At that time, Germany was considered to be the leader in camera production. German cameras were extremely expensive. So, Goro Yoshida, along with two others tried to produce a 35mm rangefinder camera at a cheaper price and came up with "Kwanon".
Canon initially did not make lenses of their own and so had to borrow lenses made by a company which would later become Nikon. After the second world war, the company officially adopted the name "Canon" as its name.
C for Canon. Canon for Power.
