Scenic Shot

Scenic Shot

Typically when the sun is right in front of you, your camera will expose the photo for a very short period of time. But this is not sufficient to capture every single detail in the sky. The trick then is to hide the sun behind a tree, put your camera on Program mode (denoted by "P" or "Pr") and kick the exposure compensation (as discussed in my previous Vancouver Aquarium entry) up by one or sometimes two steps.

I generally find this to be easier than putting your camera on manual mode and bracketing the aperture and/or shutter speed yourself.
