VeloCity Launch

VeloCity Launch

So now I'm part of this brand-new student residence initiative at the University of Waterloo known as VeloCity. The initiative's launch event was this past Friday. We got Michael Lee, the Chief Strategy Officer for Rogers Communications Inc. to give the keynote speech. It was a fun night with great dinner by UW Food Services.

Things have been pretty exciting at the residence so far. The atmosphere at VeloCity has been very positive. It has been great to interact with some like-minded, talented, and motivated students who have a deep passion for web and mobile technologies. Things have definitely been beyond my expectations.

Renovations to the lounge are almost over, and it looks like a great place to have friendly "fireplace" conversations with other residents to share ideas and thoughts. The device lab also seems to be nearly done. Furniture has moved in to the conference room and the lounge. Things are looking very good. And the people are great too!

I haven't seen the gizmos and gadgets yet. I have been told all of that stuff should be in early next week. Can't wait to play around with the iPhones and the Nokia N95s.

I'd say there's a healthy mix of both excitement and anxiety all over the residence, but primarily excitement, mostly because we feel like we're finally ready to "invent the future". There's a bit of competitive pressure, but I guess that's good in our case.
